The beginning of AI
The summer workshop in 1956 at Dartmouth College ,Hanover, New Hampshire was the place where Artificial Intelligence as a field took birth.
It was a summer research project on Artificial Intelligence. It lasted for six to eight weeks. Earlier to that in 1950's the term 'thinking by machines' existed and every scientists was trying to give it a name and prior to that there were names coming up like 'cybernetics' , 'automa theory' everyone with their own reason till John McCarthy the father of Artificial Intelligence who was the then a Young assistant professor of Mathematics at Dartmouth College decided to organize a group and clear and make a certain statement about the idea of 'thinking by machines'.
For the summer research McCarthy visited many for the funding of the research which included Rockefeller Foundation and Robert Morison Director of Biology and Medical Research but everyone was ensure of providing the funding of such visionary idea. Finally on September 2 1955 The project was formally proposed by McCarthy with the term 'Artificial Intelligence'. On May 26 1955, John McCarthy notified Robert Morison about 11 participants who would discuss on Computers, Neural Networks ,abstraction creativity, theory of computation etc.
But the main thing they were doing wrong was they wanted to build a machine which can act like human but the whole idea of AI according to me is AI is all about building machines which can act like human as well as think like human a machine that can learn and grow its intelligence. Yes definitely what was proposed by McCarthy is going to change the future in the best possible way and yes we will reach a point where we can say that life on earth will be immortal.
